We are proud to participate in the CLI Cleaner Care program that has helped reduce wire hanger waste by 35 million hangers which translates to over 1,050 tons of steel! Here is some information about the program we are proud to be a part of:
The DLI Cleaners Cleaners Care Hanger Recycling Program began in 2012, when drycleaners helped reduce steel hanger waste by 25 million hangers or 750 tons of steel. In 2013 the number grew to 30 million hangers or 900 tons of steel. By recycling hangers drycleaners prevent waste and save money.
“This program is designed to help the environment, customers, and cleaners,” said DLI CEO Mary Scalco. “Our first year with this program was remarkably successful and we have enjoyed the enthusiasm from participants as we progress to loftier goals. We’d like to see that number continue to grow as awareness of the program spreads.”
“We know that many drycleaners already recycle hangers. It just makes good sense to do so,” said Jon Meijer, DLI Membership Director. “Now we’re asking cleaners to track the number of hangers they reuse or recycle and report it as part of this program. By working together and tracking our results we can monitor the program’s contribution to a greener planet.”
Cleaners participating in the program pledge to reuse hangers whenever possible and recycle unusable hangers with local steel scrapyards. The Institute provides in-store materials cleaners can use to raise awareness of the program, which often results in more hangers coming into their stores. Participants track the hangers by estimated count and report their recycling numbers to the Institute for inclusion in the program’s grand total.
We are Berks County’s Greener Cleaner for a reason … we use environmentally friendly drycleaning and wetcleaning solutions and are committed to protecting your wardrobe and our environment! YOU can help us, too … we encourage all of our customers to recycle hangers by picking up your FREE hanger caddy at any of our 9 locations, fill it up and return it to our store for us to reuse. It is a fact that 3.5 billion hangers get thrown into landfills each year – in our business we cannot stop using them, but with your help, we can reuse and reduce waste.
TIP OF THE MONTH:
Before putting your clothes away from one season to the next, be sure they are clean. Invisible stains, such as coffee and soda can oxidize over time and appear to yellow. The longer a satin sets, the more difficult it is to remove. Insects such as moths and crickets love to feast on food, perfume, body oil and perspiration stains doing irreparable damage to the fabric. Make sure you store your clothes in a dry, well ventilated area. Temperature changes can cause moisture to form in your clothing and create mildew problems. Cleanliness and proper storage will make your garments last longer and look better!

Make sure you bring your garments in for professional drycleaning and shirt laundering as soon as possible after staining occurs. Stains and soils left too long can be impossible to remove and will shorten the life of your garments.
